After I completed Mercoland back in 2007, I became a student of art. My cunning plan was to learn to illustrate properly and then make a sweet comeback with a new comic series when the time was right.

My artistic endeavors failed, but I didn't want that to be the end of my comics. It just meant that it would be a while longer before I would be able to do my dream comic. So! The solution was to draw my ideas out with shabby stick figures so that they could direct me in the distant future when I would be ready to make a good comic. Enter the R# comics.

I thought I'd have a blast since the crude art style would enable me to draw all the ideas which I'd normally have to reject with Mercoland (becuase I couldn't illustrate a lot of those ideas). However, I stopped after I drew four. Fast forward to the better half of 2009 and I decide to pick up the pencil again. This time I stopped after I drew three.

The problem? Lame scripts. When I drew Mercoland, my brain was always obedient anytime I asked it to come up with a killer script. But the majority of the time, I didn't even have to disturb my brain. I came up with the majority of the scripts at very random parts of the day and would write them down.

So what happened? There's got to be a reason why I can look back and see 2007 Rob staring at me while grinning like a conceited idiot (that asshole). Why couldn't I come up with ideas like him? Then it hit me (the answer, not the Younger Rob). The lack of characters and history.

I put myself back in the mindset of coming up with a script for Mercoland and the difference was night-and-day. It was like somebody realizing that they had been trying to shave with a bowling pin. The familiar mindset was bliss, and I realized that a comic without characters had no soul.

Now, this revelation indicates that I probably won't be pumping out much (or any) R# comics, and the outlook for illustrating (or finding an illustrator) for my dream comic is as bleak as it was back in 2007.

For what it's worth to my followers, they should know that I have a concept and title for my dream comic for when it becomes my time to shine.
